About

There are many reasons why Thuleni is such an exceptional wilderness retreat. The homestead was designed by award-winning architect Richard Stretton, whose 'touch-the-earth-lightly' ethos has created a contemporary and organic bush lodge that is in perfect harmony with the Acacia bush veld surrounding it. From the materials and textures, to the indoor-outdoor living design, every aspect is intended to envelop you in the heart of the bush. And it truly does. It is the perfect place to get away from it all’ for a group of friends or family, with just four fabulous thatched suites for exclusive use – and each with its own lounge, plunge pool and viewing deck.

Thuleni's gracious and spacious main lodge area is all about contemporary, relaxed luxury living, featuring natural design elements. Families can come together at the fireplace lounge, have dinner around the homely wooden dining table, or watch the stars, gathered around the crackling boma fire.

Thuleni is a beautiful space that gives you time to exhale, to reconnect and to rediscover a magic bush experience in KwaZulu Natal.

A FEW FACTS

  • Apart from a single-strand elephant fence, Thuleni Homestead is unfenced. This adds to the authentic experience but even lion and cheetah have been seen near the deck.

  • It’s an easy three hours’ drive from Durban's King Shaka airport and six hours from Joburg.

  • It is close enough to the coast to combine with a coastal getaway, all year round, as the weather in the province is temperate.

  • Thuleni offers a homely bush experience with comfort, DSTV and Wifi.

  • Direct flights to King Shaka International Airport make it an easy luxury bush destination to reach.

  • The Manyoni Private Game Reserve gate is situated opposite Mkuze and it takes half an hour to the house from the gate, with game sightings on the way.

  • The house sleeps 8 adults and 2 children, or 6 adults and 4 children. Other beds serve configurations of different families and ages (and small children who need to sleep with parents are accommodated).

  • Two game drives are included in the rate per day, and game vehicles seat 10 guests.

  • A conservation levy of R165 per person per night and R85 for children under 12 per child per day is payable.

  • There have been a few snake, scorpion and bee sightings at Manyoni game farms and lodges, so good walking shoes, socks and long trousers are recommended when walking.
